Confused by Super League Super 8's

Well Super League Super 8's is about to begin. As a method for confusing people it's pure genius. As a way of deciding a rugby league season it's a little odd. There is a bit of method in the madness but I remain to be convinced it's worth the confusion.

Basically the season started off with 3 leagues. The Superleague (12 Teams), the Championship (12 teams) and League one (14 teams). After 23 rounds of Superleague the top 8 clubs go into a 7 round Super 8 League. The bottom 4 Super League clubs join the top 4 Championship clubs in a qualifiers Super 8 and the third group will be the Championship Shield.

So basically the 24 Super League and Championship teams get split into three groups of 8.

I think the 14 League 1 clubs just keep on playing.

At the end of the 3 Super 8's mini leagues there will be play offs to determine champions and the odd relegation.

If you still have the will to live you can check out the FAQ's here.

The idea is to reduce the gap between Super League and the Championship and thereby help competition and alike. We shall see. It's no bad idea to reduce the gap, but how it's done is tricky.
